minix neo u9-h

Minix Neo U9-H is an Android Box that was released in the stores just in Spring, but now it deserves a complete review!

Packing

The Minix Neo U9-H welcomes you with a fairly large package, despite the relatively small box, which also includes a small remote control an HDMI cable, a micro USB cable and an OTG cable, since there is a dedicated port on the side of the box.
Packing is therefore a bit richer than usual, but does not include batteries for the remote control, which virtually no one has.

Hardware

  • Processor: Amlogic S912-H with GPU Mali T820MP3
  • RAM: 2 GB DDR3
  • Internal memory: 16 GB of expandable eMMCs via microSD
  • Connectivity: Wi-Fi 802.11 ac dual band (2.4 and 5.8 GHz), Bluetooth 4.0
  • Communication ports: Gigabit Ethernet, HDMI, 3x USB 2.0, micro SD, SPDIF, micro USB (OTG), 3.5mm jack (microphone), 3.5mm jack (headphones)
  • OS: Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow

The Minix Neo U9-H adopts an Amlogic solution that was relatively new at the time of its announcement, but it is not so much current.
However, this is a SoC specially designed for multimedia, which is also good to play 4K HDR content.
Always a little bit of storage space is dedicated, but Wi-Fi connectivity is great, as traditionally Minix is a step ahead of the competition.
There are many ports available, but no USB 3.0, although we have the OTG.
In our opinion it’s a box with the right hardware for what it wants to do, but it’s certainly not the most powerful ever seen.

Minix U9-H does not disappoint.

Some details about Minix Neo U9-H

The interface is a rewrite of Minix than that of Android TV.
Well or badly works, aesthetically maybe it will not be the best, but it is not inferior to the average.
It’s a good idea to have folders in your home, rather than just a list of applications, especially if you plan to install many.
The system is upgraded to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, with security patches dated last summer.
Minix will probably no longer update the operating system to new versions of Android.
The app compatibility is also good, all the streaming and vide apps work as they are meant to do with no problems or scattering.
Great video playback with third-party apps, in particular with the pre-installed code, which plays whatever you take in the meal.

Great impressions also on the playfield, it runs the most common titles, even the heaviest, with no relevant troubles.
Sure it isn’t the definite gaming solution, but you have not to exclude it from your choices.

Conclusions

Just to close this review, the Minix Neo U9-H is a great deal and does exactly what it promises.
The price may be not so cheap (€150 about) but it worths all of them thanks to the great optimizations applied from the company that makes this Android Box really stable and smooth.

  • Perfect video streaming
  • Software well optimized
