Xiaomi has decided to follow in the footsteps of rivals Apple, Samsung and Huawei by creating it’s first phone powered by it’s own in house processor, the Surge S1. This makes Xiaomi only the fourth telephone maker to its own processors for it’s phones. It boasts 3GB of RAM, a 12MP f/2.2 rear camera, an 8MP f/2.0 front camera and a 2860 mAh battery. Xiaomi says that the processor’s dual ISP algorithm allows for dual noise reduction and a 150% increase in camera sensitivity. The 2860 mAh battery supports 9V2A fast charging.
Price wise it comes out at 220USD, 175GBP or around 200 Euros. The MI 5c is exclusive to China but you should be able to get it shipped from China at a reasonable price for shipping.
The 2.2GHz Surge S1 processor was developed by Pinecore which is a company started by Xiaomi about 2 years ago. Xiaomi claims that the S1 Surge can outperform the Snapdragon 625.
As with all Xiaomi phones the MI 5c comes with it’s own customised blend of Android called MIUI, this one is based on Android 7.1 Nougat.
